Rashida Ng, has been honored with the G. Holmes Perkins Distinguished Teaching Awards for the Academic Year 2023-2024 at the Weitzman School. These awards are bestowed annually to three faculty members based on student nominations, recognizing their exceptional teaching and innovative approaches in the classroom, seminar, or studio.
Rashida Ng, an architect and Presidential Associate Professor of Architecture, received acclaim for her course "Design, Race, and Climate Justice," which explores architecture and design practices perpetuating racial inequities and climate injustices. Her teaching emphasizes using architecture as a tool for social justice and community engagement, inspiring students to critically analyze and address these issues.
Ng's research focuses on social equity and environmental justice, particularly examining how historical and contemporary design practices contribute to racial disparities and health inequities in marginalized communities.
The G. Holmes Perkins Distinguished Teaching Award honors the legacy of G. Holmes Perkins, former dean of the Graduate School of Fine Arts, and celebrates excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Ng will be formally recognized at the Weitzman Commencement Exercises in May 2024 for their outstanding contributions to education and innovation in their respective fields.
